Tutoring Experience
I have been tutoring Mathematics for seven years, including teaching the MAT through the University of Oxford itself. Latin and Ancient Greek I have been tutoring for four years, both in English and German.
I have also been an ambassador on the UNIQ summer school programme run by the University of Oxford where we assisted pastorally and academically Year 12 students considering Oxford.
Tutoring Approach
Mathematics Tuition Approach
I teach with a focus on creative problem solving, as well as looking at the foundations of the mathematical methods. In this way, students can expect to fully understand the techniques they are using rather than simply apply them mechanically.
Physics Tuition Approach
I teach with a focus on understanding the principles at the heart of physics, as well as the mathematics underpinning them. In this way, students will be able to fully understand the problems they are given, as well as use their knowledge of physics to question and look behind the surface of the world around them.
Latin Tuition Approach
To ensure that students fully understand the language, I use both reading and composition (with optional verse composition) in my lessons, along with clear explanations of the grammatical principles, linking them to features in English as well as any other languages that the student may be aware of.
Ancient Greek Tuition Approach
To ensure that students fully understand the language, I use both reading and composition (with optional verse composition) in my lessons, along with clear explanations of the grammatical principles, linking them to features in English as well as any other languages that the student may be aware of.
Philosophy Tuition Approach
As an Oxford student, I am used to working within the tutorial system and thus have a discussion-focused style of teaching. In lessons, students may be expected to discuss an essay they have written prior to it, or argue for a given position. Alternatively, if a student wants to gain greater knowledge in a particular area, I can explain concepts as well as their advantages and disadvantages before encouraging engagement.

Testimonials
“Abra has been fantastic - it was obvious from our first lesson that she both loves the subject and is extremely sympathetic to problems people have learning it. I'm not really a maths person, but she was able to bring things into the discussion that I actually found interesting and helped me see maths as more than just memorizing steps”
A-Level student
“Abra is always really patient and kind when I don't understand something. She brings lots of ideas in and explains things very clearly. She seems to know lots of stuff outside Latin and Greek too”
