Tutoring Experience

- Successfully tutored a student with significant dyslexia from the initial stages of their pre-GCSE education through to the completion of their A-levels, culminating in assisting them with a successful university application.

Tutoring Approach

To begin with, I would get an understanding of which learning methods you find most effective, and what you want to get out of tuition. I will then work with you to develop a learning plan, as well as strategies to maximize the efficiency of your study time. This will give us a framework to work within, as well as helping you to manage study time outside tutor sessions. I am happy to be guided by you, and will tailor my plans to make sure that I am meeting your needs.

History: I will happily review class content with you, and help you create useful notes and learning materials. Essay technique is essential for this subject, so together we can work on practice essay plans and example essays, so that you feel confident tackling any exam question. I will also help with source analysis, so that you can easily assess any source, and incorporate it into your argument.

University application: I will work with you on your Personal Statement. I also offer practice interview sessions, with feedback and advice. I will also work with you on admissions tests, offering practice tests and feedback.

English Literature: We will review the books/plays you are studying together, and discuss tools of analysis. I encourage a focus on essay technique, and we will practice essay plans and example essays. This will give you confidence in constructing an argument, no matter the exam questions you encounter. If unseen poetry is in your exam syllabus, we will practice responding to unseen poems, and develop a ‘tool kit’ which you can use for any poem.

English Language (GCSE): I will assist you in developing learning and revision materials for the content of this GCSE. I will also set example and practice questions for you, so that you can hone your technique, and feel confident approaching different styles of writing.

Geography: I will help you to review class content in detail, as needed. We will develop learning materials that will help you in future revision. I offer practice tests and papers, which we can go through together.
