I also independently developed and taught courses on Research and Community Health for an educational non-profit organization in the United States

Tutoring Approach

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) Tuition Approach

When studying for a STEM course, it is important to be familiar with how topics within said classes and previous classes connect., I first review the course syllabus and ensure that the student is aware of the topics to be covered. I discuss this with the student in order to assess which areas they feel the most and least secure on. I then use a practice problem approach based on walking through problems together, talking through concepts to access understanding and target areas of insecurity. I vary my approach to suit the student, so after the first few sessions with one student, I usually settle into a routine based on what they like best. I make sure to encourage students & active participation, and give students the chance to direct their own studies!

SAT/ACT Tuition Approach

I like to ask new students to take a practice test prior to our first session so we can target areas of insecurity. I will construct “crash course” lessons around topics of interest, covering what they need to know for the exams and adding in higher level information to conceptualize the topic with University course work.

Practice, practice practice! Practice is incredibly important with the SAT/ACT. Generally, I’ve found students perform best from walking through practice problems together. I can also give them example questions for them to work through during the lesson (as well as in their own time if the student desires this) and would mark them and give general advice. If there were any clear problem areas or gaps in knowledge, I would then tailor some lessons to go over these topics in more detail to ensure they’re fully understood and memorized.

Admissions Tuition Approach

Using advice I was given myself when writing my own personal statement, in addition to tips I have acquired from friends and experience tutoring this in the past, I would help with how to structure a personal statement, how to avoid clichés and what to include to stand out and impress universities particularly, “Ivy League+.” I would ask the student to provide me with a draft of their personal statement which I would then go through with them, making corrections, and would continue this process until we both felt we had the best draft possible.

Having successfully done Ivy League interviews myself, I can advise students on what to expect at interviews, the kind of questions they may be asked, and how to prepare for their interview. I would run mock interviews with the student, giving them feedback and tips.

If the student if very early in their studies, I can also help them plan ahead. For example, coursework to take during High School, exploring extracurricular interests, and understand opportunities outside of school.

“Angela did an AMAZING job with tutoring me in Chemistry. She did so well that I have another session with her. She was patient and super kind to me and very understanding of my situation. I do wholeheartedly recommend having Angela as a tutor.”

University Chemistry Student

“Angela is terrific, she was prompt and prepared for the session and our son had a great hour of math learning. Angela provides a lot of positive feedback and encouragement, and the session sounded interactive and engaging. And he said it was a lot more fun than doing math with either mom or dad!”
